The Velvet Mirror
Gold, velvet, and a mirror you'll be glad you hung.
Mirrors make a room feel bigger, and an evening feel bolder. This one puts a good mirror to work, gently, for two people comfortable being seen.
The evening
After Midnight: Bolder. Suggestive, never explicit.
Let the mirror stay part of the evening, if you're both comfortable being seen. Either of you can turn it away, cover it, or turn the lights down further at any time.
Pick a pause word you'd never say by accident. Either of you can use it, or simply say stop, at any point and for any reason. Check in along the way, and treat a not yet as a perfectly good answer.
The setting
Kill the overheads. A cluster of pillar candles does the rest.
Slow standards and a little vinyl crackle, kept just under the conversation.
A dark, resinous candle that belongs with brass and lacquer.
A heavy velvet throw against smooth silk pillowcases, for the contrast.
Positions it suits
From our position guide: comfort-first, non-explicit, and paired with the furniture that makes each one easier.
One seated at the edge, the other close and supported. Upright and connected.
Seated and facing, one settled on the other's lap. Upright and intimate.
A cushion or wedge under the hips takes the strain off knees and back.
