Braise
Terms

Terms of service.

Last updated November 2026

These terms govern your use of braiseroom.com, operated by Braise, a DBA of Ember Group, LLC. By using the site you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Braise.

Eligibility

Braise is for adults 18 years or older (or the age of majority where you live). By entering, you confirm you meet that requirement and consent to viewing adult-wellness content. If we have reason to believe an account belongs to someone under 18, we will close it.

Your account

You're responsible for your account credentials and the activity under your account. Provide accurate information and keep your password secure. An account is for one person.

If you signed up for Braise email, your account also gets Cards in your inbox: a weekly email with three conversation cards at the heat you pick. Explicit cards only go to Braise Unlimited members who chose that heat and don't have Keep it tasteful on. Change how often it comes, change the heat or turn it off under Cards in your inbox on your account page, or use the unsubscribe link in any of these emails to stop it.

Acceptable use

  • Don't use Braise if you are under 18.
  • Don't misuse the tools, attempt to breach security, or scrape the site.
  • Don't try to get around the Room Designer's safety checks or usage limits, for example by disguising what's in a photo or using several accounts.
  • Don't use Braise to harass anyone, or to create an image of a real person.
  • Only link accounts with someone who wants to be linked with you, and don't pressure a partner to share anything.

What you may upload

The Room Designer is for photographs of rooms. It is not a photo editor for pictures of people, and we've built it on the assumption that nobody is in the frame.

Do not upload:

  • Nude, sexual, or otherwise explicit imagery. This site is about designing a room, not depicting what happens in it.
  • Photographs containing any identifiable person, including yourself, a partner, or anyone else. Get people out of the shot before you upload it. Beyond the legal reasons, it produces a worse render.
  • Any image of a minor, in any context whatsoever.
  • Images you don't hold the rights to.

These aren't decorative rules, and the software enforces them. Every upload is automatically screened before it is used, and anything that looks like it shows a person (including in a photo or artwork in the frame), a possible minor, nudity, sexual content, or legible personal information is refused. When the check isn't sure, it refuses. Notes you add are checked too, and every render is screened again before you see it. Automated checks can be wrong in both directions, so a refusal isn't an accusation, and passing the check doesn't make a breach acceptable.

We keep a short reason code for each refusal (never the image) so we can spot repeated misuse. We may suspend or close an account for a breach of this section. We do not tolerate child sexual abuse material, and we will report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children as the law requires, without notice to the account holder.

AI renders

You keep ownership of images you upload. You grant us a limited license to process them, including sending a cleaned copy to our AI providers, solely to check them and generate your render (and, if you opt in, to consider them for sharing as described below). Renders are produced by automated tools and may be imperfect or vary from your room; they're provided for design inspiration, not as a guarantee of any result, and products shown in a render may not look, fit or sit exactly as pictured.

Vesta and The Midnight Room

Vesta, our concierge, is an AI. Its answers are written automatically and can be wrong, so check anything that matters, and treat nothing it says as medical, health or relationship advice. The Midnight Room is a game for two to four consenting adults. You choose the heat level, from Warm to Wildfire, and the top two levels open only after every player confirms they are 18 or older and wants to play there. The writing at those levels is frank, and at the top level (Wildfire), which comes with Braise Unlimited, it is sometimes graphic. There is no sexual imagery at any level. Any player can pass a card, turn the heat down, or say the pause word at any time without explaining why.

Purchases & memberships

Payments are processed by Stripe. Prices and terms are shown before you pay. The Digital Report ($49) and Signature ($499) are paid in full through Stripe when you book. The Virtual Design Session is billed by invoice, sent through Stripe, once we've agreed on the details with you.

Free renders. A free account includes one Room Designer render. If we've invited you to test Braise, your account gets a set number of renders instead (currently five), which don't renew.

Unlimited membership. Membership is billed monthly or yearly, whichever you choose, and renews automatically at the same interval until you cancel. Both include exactly the same things: the members-only games, decks, scenes and rooms listed on our Unlimited page, and the Room Designer's member features. We add, change and sometimes retire features over time, and a membership covers what's offered to members while it's active rather than any particular feature forever. The yearly plan may start with a free trial (currently 7 days): we'll email you before the trial ends, and if you don't cancel before then, the first year is charged when the trial ends. The trial opens everything, with a few room renders; 4K and 360° views open with your first payment. "Unlimited" is subject to a fair-use limit (currently 10 renders in any 24 hours and 30 in any 30 days, where a second take counts toward the 30-day limit and a 4K counts as two, plus 3 wide views a day and 20 in any 30 days). We may adjust these limits as our costs change. At very busy times there's also a site-wide daily capacity limit, which may briefly pause new renders for everyone. A render that fails or is refused by a safety check doesn't count toward any limit. Deleting a render doesn't give it back.

Canceling. You can cancel online at any time: on your account page, choose "Manage membership", which opens Stripe's secure billing page, where you can also update your card and see past invoices. You can also email hello@braiseroom.com from the address on your account and we'll cancel it for you. Either way we stop the renewal, and your membership runs to the end of the period you've already paid for. Canceling doesn't refund the current period. Deleting your account is different: it cancels the membership right away, because the account it was for no longer exists, and the rest of the current period isn't refunded.

Buying in the Braise app

A Braise Unlimited membership bought inside the iPhone or Android app is sold and billed by Apple or Google, not by us, under their terms. It renews automatically at the price shown when you subscribe until you turn off auto-renew, which you do in your phone's subscription settings at least 24 hours before the period ends. Refunds for app purchases are handled by Apple or Google under their policies; we can't issue them. A membership bought in the app and one bought on this site give you the same Unlimited, on both, with the same account. If you use the iPhone app, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to the app, alongside these terms. Apple and Google aren't responsible for Braise or its content.

Founding lifetime membership

From time to time we may offer a limited number of founding lifetime memberships for a single, one-time payment. If you buy one, these terms apply in addition to everything else here:

  • What it covers. It includes the members-only features and tools that exist on the date you buy it, as listed on our Unlimited page that day: the Velvet, After Dark and Burn card decks, After Dark dice, Play, The Playroom and Draw from the Trunk, After Dark scenes and every scene's hottest evening, the Midnight Room each October, and the Room Designer's member features. New features, tools, content programs, physical products, subscription boxes and services we introduce later are not included unless we say so, and may be offered separately.
  • New tools, at our discretion. For now, we choose to open new members-only tools to founding lifetime members as well. That's a courtesy, not part of what you bought. We may leave out, limit or set lower usage limits on any new feature for lifetime members, especially ones that cost us money each time they run, and we may change that choice later.
  • "Lifetime" means the life of the service. It lasts for as long as Braise offers the Unlimited membership, not your lifetime or any fixed number of years. Included features may change, be redesigned or be retired over time, like any part of the site.
  • Fair use still applies. The Room Designer's fair-use limits and site-wide capacity limits apply exactly as they do for monthly and yearly members.
  • No refunds. The payment is non-refundable, including if we change, reduce or discontinue features, change our prices or plans, or close or sell the service, except where the law requires a refund or for a failed or duplicate charge as described below.
  • Personal and non-transferable. It belongs to one Braise account and can't be sold, transferred, shared outside your account or converted to cash or credit.
  • Ending it. If we suspend or close your account for breaking these terms, or you delete your account, the lifetime membership ends with it and isn't refunded.

Rewards and invites

We sometimes thank people with a free month of Braise Unlimited: when a friend you sent becomes a paying member, when we publish a testimonial you wrote, or when we feature your room. These terms apply to every reward:

  • How it's given. If you pay monthly or yearly, a free month is a credit worth one month of the monthly price on your next bill. If you aren't a paying member, it's 30 days of Unlimited added to your account. Founding lifetime members already have Unlimited, so there's nothing to add.
  • Referrals. A friend counts once, the first time they pay for a membership through your link, and only if they weren't a member before. You can't refer yourself or a second account of your own. A friend who uses your link may get a discount on their first payment.
  • Thank-you gifts. For every five friends who become paying members through your link, you can pick one gift from a short list we offer at the time, and we'll mail it to the US address on your account. Gifts are while supplies last; if one runs out we may offer something of similar value instead. We tell you how many friends have joined, never who. We may change the gifts, the number of friends needed, or end gifts, but a gift you've already earned stays yours to claim.
  • Testimonials and rooms. We decide what to publish, and a reward never depends on what you say: we want honest words, good or bad. Published testimonials and rooms note that some contributors received a free month.
  • Invites. When you invite someone by email, we send them one message and never contact them again unless they sign up. Only invite people you know who'd welcome it. We limit how many invites an account can send and may stop invites from an account that misuses them.
  • The fine print. Rewards have no cash value, can't be transferred or exchanged, and aren't refunded. We may change or end the program, and we may withhold or reverse a reward earned by fraud, abuse or a payment that's later refunded or disputed.

Refunds: renders and membership

Renders are a digital service delivered immediately, so a render you've already generated can't be returned, and a membership period that has started isn't refundable.

If the service failed (you were charged and couldn't use it, a render came back corrupted, or you were charged twice), tell us and we'll make it right with a refund or extra time. That is a defect, not a change of mind. A render you simply don't like isn't a defect: automated design output varies, which is why the first one is free.

Gift cards

  • Anything Braise sells, never products. Gift cards are for what Braise itself sells: Unlimited membership time (which includes the Room Designer) and consultations. They can't be used for products from other retailers. They have no cash value and aren't a balance to spend.
  • They never expire, and there are no dormancy or service fees.
  • Mailed cards. You can have a printed card mailed to the recipient for $5 more, to US addresses only. The $5 covers printing and postage, and the card is sent by a print-and-mail service. The $5 mailing fee isn't refundable.
  • Redeeming. Enter the code at braiseroom.com/redeem or on your account page, while signed in (a free account is fine). Each code works once. Membership time (one month, three months or a year of Unlimited) is added after any membership time already on the account, so it stacks rather than overlaps. No payment card is needed, and gift time never renews on its own: when it ends, the account goes back to free unless you choose a plan. We may send one email shortly before it ends. Gift time doesn't pause a paid membership: if you have one, it keeps renewing unless you cancel it. A consultation card adds a prepaid Digital Report or Virtual Design Session, used once when you book that tier.
  • Turning a consultation card into Unlimited. While a consultation credit is unused, you can choose to turn it into Unlimited membership time instead, from your account page. The months are worked out from what the card cost at the yearly Unlimited rate, rounded to the nearest month (for example, $49 becomes 10 months and $149 becomes 30 months). The time is added after any time already on the account. This can't be reversed, and the consultation credit is used up.
  • Keep the code safe. It works like cash: anyone with the code can redeem it. We show it once and store only a scrambled copy, so we can't look it up for you later.
  • Refunds. If you'd like a refund on a gift card you bought, email us. When a gift card is refunded in full, the card is canceled and can no longer be redeemed. If it was already redeemed, the membership time it added (including time from a consultation card turned into Unlimited) is removed, or an unused consultation credit is voided. If the credit has already paid for a consultation, we'll contact you about how to handle it. A partial refund doesn't cancel the card.

Refunds: consultations

These differ by tier, because what they commit us to differs. Every consultation is remote: the Braise team works with you by video, email, and the photos, measurements, or room scan you send. No one from Braise visits your home, and Braise doesn't install anything. A consultation prepaid with a gift card credit follows the same terms.

  • Digital Report. Refundable any time before we begin. Once the report has been delivered it isn't refundable, since the whole deliverable has changed hands.
  • Virtual Design Session. Reschedule (up to twice) or cancel for a full refund with at least 24 hours' notice. Inside 24 hours, or for a missed appointment, the session is charged, though if something unavoidable happened, tell us and we'll be reasonable about it.
  • Signature. Signature is $499, paid in full when you book. Cancel before your discovery session and we'll refund it in full. After that, we'll refund what you've paid less the sessions already held and design work already delivered. Each video session can be rescheduled free, up to twice, with at least 24 hours' notice; inside 24 hours, or for a missed session, that session counts as held, though if something unavoidable happened, tell us and we'll be reasonable about it. Once the final report and renders are delivered, the design work isn't refundable. The 30-day follow-up session is included and can be booked any time in the 90 days after your walkthrough.

If you ask for a refund on Signature, we'll show you the arithmetic rather than simply keeping what you paid. If we need to reschedule a session, you can take the new time or a full refund for any work not yet delivered.

Time limits

A consultation holds our time for you, so each one has a window to use it in.

  • Digital Report. If we need anything more from you (photos, measurements or answers), send it within 60 days of paying. The 48 hours start once we have everything.
  • Virtual Design Session. Book your session within 60 days of your invoice.
  • Signature. Hold your discovery session within 60 days of paying, and send your room scan or photos within 30 days of that session. We'll have your design review ready within 3 weeks of receiving them. The project runs up to 6 months from purchase; the 30-day follow-up session keeps its own 90-day window after your walkthrough.
  • Missing a window. If a window passes, the unused part of the consultation expires. Ask and we'll extend it once, no questions asked. Time we take on our side never counts against you.

Consultations prepaid with a gift card start these windows when you send your request, not when the card was bought. Gift cards themselves never expire.

Products and installation. Products in a Braise cart or shopping list are bought from the retailer, on the retailer's own terms, prices, and return policy. Braise doesn't sell, deliver, or install anything. Installation notes are general guidance: anything mounted to a ceiling or wall, anything electrical, and anything load-bearing should be installed by a licensed professional you hire, following the manufacturer's instructions and weight limits. That work is between you and the installer, and Braise isn't responsible for it.

Content standards

Braise does not produce or publish sexually explicit images or video, so the record-keeping requirements of 18 U.S.C. 2257 and 2257A do not apply to this site. Every person shown or rendered here is an adult, and we don't host user-uploaded adult content. Our standards for images, including AI renders, are on our AI & safeguards page. To report anything, use the contact page.

Affiliate links & third-party sites

Braise contains affiliate links (see our affiliate disclosure). Purchases happen on the retailer's own site under their terms; we're not responsible for third-party sites, products, or fulfillment.

Intellectual property

Braise's content, branding, and design are owned by Ember Group, LLC and may not be copied or reused without permission. Product names and images belong to their respective owners.

Disclaimers

Braise is provided "as is." Our content is editorial and informational and is not medical advice. We make no warranty that the site or any product recommendation will meet your needs.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Braise and Ember Group, LLC will not be liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site.

If you choose to share

You may optionally let us publish a before/after pair from your room, or give us a testimonial. Both are off by default and neither is required to use anything on Braise. We delete your room photo once your render is done. We only ask about featuring your before/after pair once you've seen the render, and only if you say yes does your browser send us the photo again for us to keep privately.

If you approve a pair, you grant Ember Group, LLC a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display and adapt those images to show and promote the Room Designer, on the site and in our own marketing. The images remain yours. We won't sell them, license them on to anyone else, or present them as anything other than what they are.

By approving, you confirm the photo is yours to share, that it contains no identifiable person, and that you're content for it to be seen publicly. You can withdraw at any time and we'll remove it and delete the stored photo, though we can't retrieve copies already downloaded or cached elsewhere. The same applies to testimonials: they are submitted voluntarily, we review each one before publishing, you choose how you're credited (first name, initials or anonymous), we email you the final wording and the date it goes up (a few days later, so you can change or stop it first), and we'll remove a quote whenever you ask.

We review everything before it's published and may decline to publish, or later remove, anything at our discretion.

Your content

Anything you save on Braise (renders, wishlists, saved rooms, saved scenes and preferences) remains yours. You can delete saved rooms and preferences yourself from your account page, and you can delete your whole account there at any time with "Delete my account", or ask us to do it by emailing hello@braiseroom.com (our privacy policy explains what that removes). Apart from the opt-in sharing described above, we don't claim the right to publish or reuse your uploads, and we don't use them to train AI models.

Suspension & termination

You can stop using Braise whenever you like and delete your account from your account page, or ask us to. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, in particular the acceptable-use and upload rules above, attempts to compromise the site, or fraudulent payment activity. Where it's reasonable to do so, we'll tell you why and give you a chance to respond. If we close your account without cause, we'll refund the unused part of any paid membership and any unused prepaid consultation.

Indemnity

You agree to cover us for claims arising from your misuse of the site or your breach of these terms, most relevantly uploading an image you didn't have the right to use.

Copyright complaints

If you believe something on Braise infringes your copyright, email hello@braiseroom.com with the work concerned, the URL, and your contact details, and we'll investigate and remove infringing material where appropriate.

Disputes

If something goes wrong, contact us first: nearly everything is resolvable by email, and we'd rather fix a problem than litigate one. If it can't be resolved that way, these terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which Ember Group, LLC is organized, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and disputes will be brought in the courts of that state. Nothing here removes a right you have under the consumer-protection law of the place you live.

General

If any provision of these terms is unenforceable, the rest still applies. Our not enforcing a term on one occasion doesn't waive it. These terms, plus our privacy policy, are the whole agreement between us.

Changes

We may update these terms and will revise the date above; if a change materially affects your rights, we'll flag it rather than quietly re-dating the page. Questions: hello@braiseroom.com.
