Pattern on the Ceiling
Lie on the rug, watch the lantern light, and say what you see.
A pierced lantern throws a whole sky across the ceiling. This is an easy, almost lazy evening for two or a few: lie back on the rugs and let the room entertain you.
The evening
Candlelit: Sweet and talkative.
Lie on your backs on the rugs with your heads together and a lantern between you. Take turns saying what the patterns look like. Then talk about what you'd want the next year to look like.
Talk about what's on and off the table before anything starts, and agree on a pause word everyone knows. Anyone can step out at any point, with no explanation needed. Check in with each person, not only the group.
The setting
Pierced lanterns and a cluster of candles, so pattern lands on the walls. Overhead lights off.
Something warm and hypnotic with a soft drum under it, low enough to talk over.
Warm and resinous, a little sweet, like a courtyard after dark.
Rough wool underfoot, soft linen on the bed, and cushions you can sink into.
Positions it suits
From the position guide: frank, practical and comfort-aware, with the furniture that makes each one easier.
Both on your sides, one behind the other. Lazy in the best way.
Semi-reclined and cushioned. Minimal exertion, maximum ease. Good for solo nights too.
Lying on your sides, turned toward each other. Eye contact and ease.
The receiving partner lies back with knees bent while the other sits up between their legs, legs stretched out underneath. Calm, slow and face to face.
