The Zen Pause

A spooning variation built for stillness: both on your sides, legs tangled, moving as little as possible. Closer to a long embrace than a workout.

How to do it

Both partners lie on their sides facing the same way, the back partner tucked behind the front one. The front partner draws their top knee up high toward their chest, opening the hips, while their bottom leg stays long. The back partner slides their top leg under and between the front partner's legs so the two of you are woven together from the hips down. The back partner wraps an arm over the front partner's waist or chest, and the front partner can hold that hand or reach back for the back partner's hip. Once you're connected, slow right down: a few gentle movements, then a pause where you simply breathe together, then a few more. Bringing the front partner's knee higher makes it deeper; straightening it makes it softer.

What it's good for

Slow, unhurried sex, sleepy mornings and nights when you want to stretch things out. Pausing often builds anticipation and keeps it going longer.

Make it easier

A pillow under the front partner's raised knee lets them relax completely. A pillow under both heads keeps necks comfortable.

A small tip

Try matching your breathing during the pauses. It sounds small, and it changes the whole mood.

Agree on it before you try it, use plenty of lube, and either of you can stop at any point. This guide is general information, not medical advice.
