Water, silicone, or hybrid: which to use, what it's compatible with, and why it makes everything better.
Lubricant is the most underrated upgrade in intimacy, and choosing the right type is mostly about compatibility. Water-based lube is the versatile default: safe with everything, including silicone toys and all condoms, and easy to clean up, though it absorbs over time and needs reapplying. It's the right first bottle for almost everyone.
Silicone-based lube is long-lasting, ultra-slick, and great for water play because it doesn't wash away, but it must not be used with silicone toys (it can degrade the surface). It's compatible with latex condoms. Reserve it for skin-on-skin or non-silicone toys.
Hybrid (water-silicone blend) lubes split the difference. They last longer than water and clean up more easily than pure silicone, but check the label before pairing with silicone toys.
A few habits make a difference: avoid products with glycerin or fragrance if you're prone to irritation, patch-test anything new, store it within reach so reapplying doesn't break the moment, and remember more is usually better than less. Good lube doesn't signal a problem. It signals you care about comfort.
