Storm Night In
Rain on the windows, one lantern, and a game nobody has to win.
Every beach house has a storm night, when the power is iffy and everyone ends up in one room. Tonight you make that on purpose: one lantern, blankets, and a slow game that turns into a long talk.
The evening
Candlelit: Sweet and talkative.
Turn off everything but one lantern. Pile onto the bed with blankets and play cards or a word game, with one rule: whoever loses a hand answers a question from the winner.
Talk about what's on and off the table before anything starts, and agree on a pause word everyone knows. Anyone can step out at any point, with no explanation needed. Check in with each person, not only the group.
The setting
Pillar candles in glass, curtains open to the last of the light, then one warm lamp as it gets dark.
Real rain if you get it, or a rain recording, low enough to talk over.
Clean and sun-warmed, like a beach house in the evening.
Rumpled linen sheets, bare feet on jute, and a chunky throw for when the breeze cools.
Positions it suits
From the position guide: frank, practical and comfort-aware, with the furniture that makes each one easier.
Both on your sides, one behind the other. Lazy in the best way.
One seated at the edge, the other close and supported. Upright and connected.
Semi-reclined and cushioned. Minimal exertion, maximum ease. Good for solo nights too.
Lying fully together, legs outstretched and pressed close. Simple and snug.
