Say It Slowly
One candle, one honest invitation, and nowhere else to be.
An evening that goes in order and never hurries. You set the room, put the phones away, play a little, trade a massage by candlelight, and end with one honest invitation.
- LightOne candle and a low lamp
- SoundSlow, warm soul
- ScentThe candle, and nothing else
The evening
Smoldering: Flirtier, a little closer.
Let the game get a little closer than usual, then hand one of you a silk sash and let them decide what it's for. Trade a long massage by candlelight, back and shoulders first, and take your time getting anywhere else.
- Set the room. Overheads off, one lamp on low, and light the massage candle (or any candle you have).
- Phones go in another room now.
- Take turns telling each other one thing you noticed this week and never said out loud.
- Play your game, dice or questions, and let each round end a little closer than the last.
- Halfway. A silk sash or a soft scarf is yours tonight. One of you decides what it's for. Say it slowly. You can always change your mind.
- Check in. Still good? Keep going, slow down, or stop?
- Put the massage candle out and let the wax cool for a minute. Test a drop of the oil on your wrist first. It should feel warm, never hot.
- Trade a long massage with the warm oil, back and shoulders first, and take your time going anywhere else.
- One of you finishes two sentences out loud: "Tonight, I'd like..." and "Next time, I'd like...". Write them down if that's easier to say.
- Whatever the answer, say thank you. Take it as slowly as it asks.
- When you're done, light the candle once more if you like, then put it out. Stay close a few minutes before anyone reaches for a phone.
Pick a pause word you'd never say by accident. Either of you can use it, or simply say stop, at any point and for any reason. Check in along the way, and treat a not yet as a perfectly good answer.
The setting
Overheads off. One warm lamp turned down low, and the massage candle lit before anything else.
Old soul and slow R&B, low enough that a whisper carries.
Let the massage candle scent the room. Skip a second candle or a diffuser tonight.
A soft throw on the bed, a silk sash or scarf within reach, and a towel for the oil.
Positions it suits
From the position guide: frank, practical and comfort-aware, with the furniture that makes each one easier.
Both on your sides, one behind the other. Lazy in the best way.
The receiving partner lies back with legs straight and closed, and the other partner kneels upright astride their thighs.
The receiving partner lies back with both legs pointed straight up, together, like a candle. The kneeling partner holds them close against their chest.
