The Courtyard Supper
Dinner carried to the bedroom, eaten slowly by lantern light.
Arches, terracotta tile and a hanging lantern make a bedroom feel like a villa at dusk. Tonight dinner comes to the room, and nobody gets up from the table early.
The evening
Candlelit: Sweet and talkative.
Spread a blanket on the floor and eat something you can share with your hands: bread, cheese, fruit, whatever you're celebrating with. Go around and toast each person with a story about them.
Talk about what's on and off the table before anything starts, and agree on a pause word everyone knows. Anyone can step out at any point, with no explanation needed. Check in with each person, not only the group.
The setting
One lantern or lamp, and a candle on every flat surface near where you'll eat.
Fingerpicked guitar or soft neo-soul, nothing with hard edges.
Grounded and earthy, like the materials in the room.
Washed linen, a chunky knit throw, bare feet on a wool rug.
Positions it suits
From the position guide: frank, practical and comfort-aware, with the furniture that makes each one easier.
One seated at the edge, the other close and supported. Upright and connected.
Both on your sides, one behind the other, with pillows doing the supporting.
Lying fully together, legs outstretched and pressed close. Simple and snug.
