One bright ceiling light kills the mood. Here's how to layer warm, dimmable light that flatters everything.
Lighting does more for a bedroom's mood than any single piece of furniture, and the most common mistake is relying on one bright overhead fixture.
Layer instead. Aim for three sources: a warm overhead on a dimmer for flexibility, a pair of low bedside lamps for an even, flattering glow, and one accent (a sconce, a candle, a small uplight) for depth and shadow. Warm color temperature (around 2700K) is far more inviting than cool white.
Put everything you can on dimmers or smart bulbs so you can shift the room from functional to intimate in a tap. Avoid light sources at eye level that glare; bounce light off walls and ceilings for softness.
Candlelight is the shortcut to atmosphere, but flameless LED candles give you the flicker without the worry, especially near fabrics.
