A companion doll rewards consistent, gentle care, and the routine differs by material. Both silicone and TPE should be cleaned with mild, unscented antibacterial soap and lukewarm (never hot) water, patted dry with a soft towel, and allowed to air-dry fully before storage. Trapped moisture is the enemy of longevity. Avoid harsh solvents, alcohol, and abrasive cloths that can damage the surface.
TPE needs a little extra: a light dusting of renewal/maintenance powder (cornstarch-based, not talc per current guidance) keeps the skin soft and matte and prevents tackiness. Silicone is lower-maintenance but still benefits from a gentle conditioning routine per the maker's instructions.
Storage protects the skeleton and the skin. Store the doll lying flat or hung as the manufacturer specifies, in a cool, dry, dark place, with limbs in a neutral position to avoid stressing joints or creasing the skin. Keep it away from heat, direct sun, and contact with dark or dye-transferring fabrics, which can stain.
Treat maintenance as part of ownership, not a chore tacked on. A clean, properly stored, well-conditioned doll looks and feels far better for far longer, and protects what is, for most people, a significant investment.
