The 2027 colors are green, burgundy is staying and the canopy bed is back. The bedroom trends that make a room more intimate, and the ones to skip.
Every fall the paint companies announce their colors for the year ahead, and the trend reports pile up. Most of what's in them won't matter to your bedroom by next spring. A few things will.
We read through this year's crop with one question in mind: does it make a bedroom feel more intimate? If it does, it's in. If it's only new, it's out. Here's what made the cut, and what we'd skip.
2027 bedroom trends, in short
- Green walls, from deep forest to soft olive, led by the 2027 colors of the year.
- Burgundy and oxblood, still going, in velvet more than paint.
- Low, warm, layered light, including cordless lamps you can move around.
- The canopy bed, back with a slimmer frame.
- Washed linen with one velvet layer.
- Sculptural flowers: a few long stems instead of a round bouquet.
- Lace, carefully, once per room.
- Skip: circus prints, galaxy ceilings, and anything that feels like a costume.
The 2027 colors are green, and that's good news for bedrooms
Most of the big paint brands have now named their colors for 2027, and most of them are green. Benjamin Moore picked Webster Green, a deep forest shade. Behr chose Grounded, an earthy olive. Sherwin-Williams went much lighter with Celery, a pale green with a little yellow in it. Graham & Brown is the exception, with Rose Earth, a dusty pink.
That's a real shift from 2026, when the picks leaned toward soft white and espresso.
Deep and mid greens are a good bedroom color for a simple reason: they look rich at night under warm lamps, and they're kind to skin. Olive and forest shades feel calm in daylight and wrap around you after dark. Paler greens like Celery are easier in a small or dim room, but test a sample under your evening lamps before you commit, because light greens can look quite different at night than they do at noon. Warm Organic is the Braise look built around earthy greens, linen and wood.
If dusty pink appeals more, Rose Earth is the romantic option. It's very at home in a Parisian Boudoir bedroom with gilt and soft florals.
Burgundy isn't going anywhere
The brown-based reds that arrived in 2025, oxblood, wine and mahogany, are still here. Glidden named Warm Mahogany its 2026 color, and designers keep pairing these reds with cocoa, walnut, camel and brass rather than bright red.
In a bedroom the easiest way in is fabric: a velvet throw across the foot of the bed, a pair of wine-colored pillow covers, or a velvet headboard. Wine and olive together, like the room in the photo above, is one of the best pairings of the year.
One warning: deep reds look best under warm lamps. Under cool overhead downlights they turn a muddy brown.
Low, warm light is the real trend
If you only take one idea from this list, take this one. Designers are swapping the single ceiling light for several small, warm sources: table lamps, wall lights, and cordless rechargeable lamps you can set anywhere. Alabaster and amber glass are popular because they glow instead of glare, a little like candlelight.
It's also the trend that changes how a bedroom feels the most, for the least money.
- Use warm bulbs, around 2700K, or lower for lamps you only use at night.
- Aim for three light sources at different heights, all turned down low.
- Put a cordless lamp where there's no outlet: on a dresser, a bookshelf or the floor beside a chair.
- Turn the overhead light off.
The Lighting Planner builds a layered plan for your own room, with bulb warmth and two scenes to save.
The canopy is back, lighter
The four-poster has returned, but slimmer: thin black metal or wood frames, with loose linen panels in place of heavy swags. It makes a room within a room, which is exactly what a bedroom wants.
In a small room or a rental, you can get the same feeling without the frame. Hang a single panel of fabric from a ceiling track or a curtain rod mounted high behind the bed, or add a short fabric cornice above the headboard. Either one frames the bed and draws the eye there.
Sheer canopy fabric and open flames don't mix. Use flameless candles anywhere inside or near the drapes.
Washed linen and one velvet layer
Etsy named Washed Linen its first-ever Texture of the Year for 2026, and the soft, rumpled linen bed isn't going away. What makes it romantic is the contrast: linen against your skin, one layer of velvet on top. Relaxed and a little sensual at the same time.
Our guide to bedding for intimacy covers the fabrics that feel good and wash well.
Sculptural flowers
The big round bouquet is out. In its place: one kind of flower, long bare stems, a tall vase and plenty of space around it. Calla lilies are having a moment, mostly thanks to weddings, and tulips or a single branch work the same way.
Three to five stems on the dresser, beside a lamp, is plenty. Low-scent flowers like callas are a good choice if either of you is sensitive to fragrance. If you have a cat or dog, note that the ASPCA lists calla lilies as toxic to both, so keep them out of reach.
Lace, carefully
Lace has been everywhere in fashion, and Pinterest reports that searches for "lace doily" rose 105 percent in its 2026 trend report. In a bedroom it tips into twee or costume very quickly. Use it once: lace-edged pillowcases, or a single sheer lace panel at the window.
Dark romance, without the costume
Pinterest's 2026 trend report named a mood it calls "Vamp Romantic": moody, candlelit and a little gothic. Pinterest reports searches for "dark romantic makeup" up 160 percent and "vampire beauty" up 90 percent. Fall bedroom roundups are heading the same way, from white walls toward burgundy, eggplant, espresso and warm black.
The bedroom version is deep walls, velvet, low light and dark flowers. Keep it warm. This is a room you'd want to stay in all winter, not a set for a party.
If you'd love the effect of a dark room but can't face painting the ceiling, try a softer version of color drenching, where walls, trim and sometimes the ceiling go one deep color. A dark fabric canopy or a velvet headboard gets you a good share of that cocooned feeling, and it moves with you.
What we'd skip
- Circus and carnival prints. Pinterest's "FunHaus" trend is fun in a playroom or a hallway. Not where you go to unwind.
- Galaxy ceilings and full space themes. One moon print is lovely. A starry ceiling is a lot to fall asleep under.
- A whole room of theatrical swags. Pinterest's "Opera Aesthetic" makes a wonderful New Year's Eve, and a heavy room to live in all year. Borrow one drapey fabric moment and leave it there.
- Anything you only like in photos. If a trend needs explaining every time someone walks in, it isn't making the room more intimate.
Try the look in your own room first
Trends are easier to commit to once you've seen them in your own room. Upload a photo of your bedroom to the Room Designer, choose a style, then choose a color palette. Sage & oak and Emerald & brass are the closest to this year's greens, Blush & gilt leans toward dusty pink, and Oxblood & black brings the wine. It keeps your windows and the shape of your room, and shows the result lit for the evening. Then paint, or don't.
Common questions
What are the 2027 colors of the year?
Benjamin Moore chose Webster Green, a deep forest green. Behr chose Grounded, an earthy olive. Sherwin-Williams chose Celery, a pale yellow-green. Graham & Brown chose Rose Earth, a dusty pink, and WGSN and Coloro named Luminous Blue.
What color should I paint my bedroom in 2027?
If you want something current that also works at night, a deep or mid green like forest or olive is a strong choice. It looks rich under warm lamps. Test any color under your evening lighting before you paint the whole room.
Are canopy beds back in style?
Yes, in a lighter form: thin metal or wood frames with loose linen panels. In a small room, a single panel of fabric hung high behind the bed gives a similar effect.
Is burgundy still in style?
Yes. Brown-based reds like oxblood and wine carried over from 2025, and they pair well with this year's greens. In a bedroom, velvet pillows, a throw or a headboard is the easiest way in.
