The Cocoon
Also called: The Toad, Knees-up missionary
A wrapped-up take on missionary: the receiving partner draws their knees high and the top partner lies fully on them in a close embrace.
The receiving partner lies on their back and draws their knees up and out, letting their lower legs float in the air or rest lightly on the top partner's lower back. The top partner lies down between their legs, chest to chest, and slides their arms under the receiving partner's shoulders or cradles their head. Instead of propping up on straight arms, the top partner lets their upper body settle so there's very little space between you. Movement is short and close, more rocking than thrusting. The higher the receiving partner pulls their knees toward their chest, the deeper it goes; lowering the knees and wrapping the ankles around the top partner's thighs makes it gentler.
Feeling held. It's slow, warm and full of skin contact, with your faces right next to each other.
A pillow under the receiving partner's hips lets them keep their knees up without holding their legs in the air. The top partner can shift some weight onto their elbows any time.
Hold still for a moment once you're connected. Breathing together in this position does a lot on its own.
Later in pregnancy, lying flat on your back for long stretches can leave you lightheaded. Side-lying and on-top positions are usually more comfortable; check with your midwife or doctor if you're unsure.
A wedge under the hips holds the tilt so the receiving partner's legs can relax.
