The Rowing Boat
Sitting face to face with legs woven together, rocking back and forth like a pair of rowers.
Both partners sit facing each other on the bed or floor, close enough to kiss. The receiving partner sits in front, slightly onto the other partner's lap, and draws one knee up toward their own chest between the two of you, foot flat on the bed. Their other leg wraps around the other partner's back or hip. The other partner sits with one leg stretched out straight beneath the receiving partner's raised knee and the other bent behind them. Arms go around each other's shoulders or waists, and you move by leaning back and forth together in a slow, rowing rhythm. Switching which knee is raised changes the angle a little and gives tired hips a break.
Face-to-face closeness and slow, shared movement. It feels more like a conversation than a performance.
Sit against the headboard or a wall so the back partner has support, or both lean back on your hands.
Hold each other's forearms and pull gently in turn. The name makes more sense once you find the rhythm.
Tight hips may not like the woven legs. Stretch the legs out straighter or sit on a cushion if anything pulls.
On the floor, a thick rug makes the sitting much kinder on hips and tailbones.
