Pumpkins and Candlelight
Carve something together, then let the candles take over.
Half the fun of October is the evening spent carving pumpkins. Tonight you do it together, set them glowing in the bedroom window, and let the room turn warm and orange and a little wicked once the knives are put away.
The evening
Candlelit: Sweet and talkative.
Carve two pumpkins, one each, without showing each other until the end. Set them in the window with a flameless candle inside and pick a winner. The loser gives a long shoulder rub.
Pick a pause word you'd never say by accident. Either of you can use it, or simply say stop, at any point and for any reason. Check in along the way, and treat a not yet as a perfectly good answer.
The setting
Tall tapers in clusters, and every overhead light off.
Slow cello, a little choral, something that sounds like rain on old glass.
Cinnamon, clove or a woodsmoke candle. The room should smell like the season.
Heavy velvet, a lace edge, cool satin against warm skin.
Positions it suits
From the position guide: frank, practical and comfort-aware, with the furniture that makes each one easier.
Both sitting up, wrapped around each other. Slow, close and very still.
Both on your sides, one behind the other. Lazy in the best way.
The receiving partner lies back with knees bent while the other sits up between their legs, legs stretched out underneath. Calm, slow and face to face.
A gentler cousin of lying flat from behind: the receiving partner lies on their front with one knee drawn up, and the other lies along their back, mouth by their ear.
